Tron founder Justin Sun has announced that the network’s post-quantum cryptography is now operational on its testnet, signaling a proactive move to secure blockchain assets against potential threats from quantum computing advancements.

Tron’s quantum resistance initiative

In a social media post shared on Saturday, Sun stated that Tron developers are closely monitoring developments in both quantum computing and artificial intelligence. He emphasized that Tron is prepared to deploy quantum-resistant solutions to its mainnet whenever necessary.

“We’re committed to keeping user assets secure, and Tron is set to be one of the few major blockchains that is quantum-resistant before Q-Day,” Sun wrote, referencing the anticipated milestone when quantum computers could undermine current security standards.

We’re closely tracking progress in quantum computing and AI, and we’re ready to bring quantum resistance to mainnet at any time, Sun said in a post on X.

The Tron network, established by Justin Sun, is a major blockchain platform focused on decentralized applications and digital asset trading. Its move towards post-quantum cryptography positions it among the leading blockchain projects working to stay ahead of emerging technological risks.

Industry-wide push for post-quantum security

As interest grows regarding the future capabilities of quantum computers, blockchain security experts have intensified research into quantum-resistant technologies. Many worry that powerful quantum machines will eventually crack elliptic-curve cryptography, which serves as the security backbone for networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Coindesk recently reported that AmericanFortress, a blockchain security company, has unveiled a cryptographic solution designed to protect digital wallets from future quantum attacks. Uniquely, the proposal maintains existing wallet addresses and does not require users to transfer funds, rotate keys, or alter wallet addresses to achieve post-quantum protection.

AmericanFortress shared its technical approach in a paper uploaded to the Cryptography ePrint Archive, a repository for cryptographic research. At the time of publication, the proposal had not undergone peer review.

Major blockchain projects respond

Developers across the industry have accelerated efforts to deploy quantum-resistant measures. Early this year, a consortium led by blockchain security firm Strategy committed $15 million to support Bitcoin quantum security research. The Ethereum Foundation presented a proposal to help migrate accounts to quantum-resistant cryptography, and Algorand revealed plans to introduce quantum-resistant accounts by 2027.

The growing focus reflects increasing concerns that achieving quantum advantage could trigger severe vulnerabilities for current crypto ecosystems unless advanced protections are implemented promptly.

Recent coverage in various industry publications highlights ongoing debates and discussions regarding the practical implications of quantum-secure technologies for major cryptocurrencies.
