ABC Newsreported Monday that Trump used several social media posts to attack warnings that AI could take over the world or threaten humanity. He called those fears a "HOAX."
Trump also described a "SICK conspiracy" against AI and data centers, said China would benefit from restrictions and told critics, "Don’t kill the Golden Goose!" He said the only AI guardrails needed were a "STRONG AND SMART" president, while arguing that existing criminal and regulatory powers already give Washington enough authority. The administration is still prioritizing speed.
Vice President JD Vance said officials recognize AI risks but want regulation handled "smartly," questioning why frontier AI companies are asking the government to regulate them. He described that pressure as a "Trojan horse."
House Speaker Mike Johnson said Trump plans to meet AI executives this week as lawmakers return to Washington with artificial intelligence regulation back on the agenda.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said his company would welcome a slower development pace and a federal framework setting consistent safety requirements for frontier AI. He said pacing does not mean stopping. Altman argued that safety reviews and monitoring carry costs, but said competitive pressure should not let model capabilities move ahead of alignment and oversight.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei made a similar case in a recent essay, writing that developers "must slow the pace" of capability gains so safety work can catch up. The warnings have also intensified inside the industry.
Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon resigned last week and accused both Anthropic and OpenAI of racing toward self-improving superintelligence, saying the companies were "gambling with our lives."
