US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded $528 million in net inflows on Wednesday, as Bitcoin’s price briefly climbed above $84,700 before easing back. The influx of capital marked the third consecutive day of positive flows for these funds.

Major funds lead new inflows

The recent activity followed net inflows of $23 million on Tuesday and $526.6 million on Monday, based on data provided by analytics platform SoSoValue. Over the course of these three sessions, US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted a total of $1.08 billion from investors.

Data from Farside Investors showed that BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) led the pack on Wednesday with $235 million in net inflows. Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) was close behind, adding approximately $213 million.

Two weeks prior, Bitcoin ETFs had experienced significant withdrawals, losing $681 million followed by $228 million last week. This week’s turnaround in flows suggested a renewed investor appetite for these products.

By Wednesday, net inflows for October reached around $461 million, while the year-to-date total climbed to $1.34 billion, according to SoSoValue.

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust collected $235 million in net inflows on Wednesday, with Fidelity’s fund close behind at $213 million, as investor demand rebounded strongly after two weeks of outflows.

Bitcoin and altcoin price movements

Bitcoin’s price surged to an intraday peak of $84,777 on Wednesday, before pulling back to $82,485 by the end of the session, according to CoinGecko. The rally coincided with the renewed inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs.

Other cryptocurrency ETFs experienced notable activity. Ether ETFs ended a five-day run of outflows by registering $15 million in net inflows. Solana ETFs brought a 13-day outflow streak to a close with approximately $585,000 in new capital. Meanwhile, XRP ETFs added about $709,000.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs, established in early 2024, allow investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin through regulated funds traded on major stock exchanges without directly holding the cryptocurrency.

Mini dictionary: Spot Bitcoin ETF, a regulated investment fund that tracks the real-time price of Bitcoin, enabling investors to buy or sell shares representing Bitcoin’s value through traditional stock markets instead of purchasing the cryptocurrency directly.

Background: Volatility and investor sentiment

Investor sentiment in the cryptocurrency ETF sector appeared to shift sharply over the past week as a rebound in Bitcoin’s price and positive flows into leading funds contrasted with the significant outflows seen earlier in the month.

High-profile moves in US spot Bitcoin ETFs often influence short-term price dynamics for Bitcoin as well as related digital assets. Analysts have highlighted the sector’s sensitivity to both market conditions and macroeconomic news, including strong corporate earnings from major companies such as SpaceX in the third quarter.

The increased inflow activity suggested that institutional and retail investors alike regained confidence, at least temporarily, as Bitcoin’s market value approached its recent highs.
