The partnership’s objective is to leverage quantum machine learning technology to discover novel molecules capable of separating rare earth elements with greater efficiency than existing solutions.

The initiative addresses a particular and expensive challenge: the breakdown of Mixed Rare Earth Carbonate into individual oxides. Currently, Chinese manufacturers hold a commanding position in this processing segment.

At the time of writing, USAR shares were changing hands at $15.10, representing a 1.95% decline for the session, and have plummeted 93% over the past twelve months. The company’s market capitalization stands at a modest $16.6 million.

Technical Approach and Methodology

Riven Systems will execute automated laboratory testing to generate training datasets for machine learning algorithms. These algorithms will concentrate on extractant selectivity, determining which chemical compounds most effectively bind to particular rare earth elements.

Pasqal will subsequently deploy its Neutral Atom quantum processing platform to evaluate quantum machine learning algorithms against conventional computing models. The objective is to enable USA Rare Earth to identify optimal extractants more rapidly.

Source materials for the initiative include feedstock from USA Rare Earth’s Round Top mining operation in Sierra Blanca, Texas, supplemented by third-party mixed rare earth carbonates and recycled material from magnet production.

Alex Moyes, Senior Vice President of Upstream at USA Rare Earth, noted that the non-Asian rare earth sector has historically faced challenges with the separation phase. “Chinese producers dominate this capability, particularly for critical heavy rare earths including dysprosium, terbium, and yttrium,” he stated.

Moyes further explained that the initiative aims to “replace years of trial-and-error” with accelerated, more competitive chemistry development.

Partner Company Profiles

Pasqal was established in 2019 and manufactures neutral-atom quantum computers complete with an integrated software platform. The company maintains its headquarters in France while operating on a global scale. PSQL shares declined 4.12% during the trading session.

Riven Systems is a New York-headquartered enterprise specializing in artificial intelligence applications for industrial chemistry.

USA Rare Earth maintains operations throughout the rare earth supply chain, spanning mining operations to magnet production, with locations in the United States, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.

The company is the owner of Less Common Metals, a manufacturer of rare earth metals and alloys, and is currently expanding magnet manufacturing capabilities in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

USA Rare Earth recorded $2.25 million in revenue during the trailing twelve months and maintains a gross profit margin approaching 16%, based on InvestingPro data.

The collaboration envisions more compact, cost-effective, and energy-efficient processing operations should the newly developed separation molecules demonstrate effectiveness.
