VanEck has asked the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for permission to pull the registration for its Lido Staked Ethereum ETF, telling regulators the firm does not plan to proceed with distributing the fund’s shares.

VanEck Digital Assets, LLC submitted a Form RW request dated October 14, 2026, asking the SEC to consent to the withdrawal of its S-1 registration statement, file No. 333-290918. The original S-1 had been filed exactly one year earlier, on October 16, 2025. For related coverage, see 数据:VanEck ETF 钱包通过 Gemini 出售约1076万美元BTC和ETH.

The filing is direct: VanEck states it does not intend to proceed with the planned distribution of the Trust’s shares. No ambiguity, no stated timeline for reconsidering. For related coverage, see VanEck and Grayscale Amend BNB ETF Filings With the SEC.

What the Filing Actually Says

The Form RW also notes that the registration statement had never been declared effective by the SEC, and that no securities had been issued, sold, or offered under it. No preliminary prospectus was distributed to investors. For related coverage, see VanEck and Grayscale File Fresh BNB ETF Amendments.

In other words, the VanEck Lido Staked Ethereum ETF never launched. It existed only as a paper filing, and now VanEck wants that paper off the table. For related coverage, see Binance.US Seeks $100M at $1B Valuation: Report.

One important caveat: a Form RW is a request for SEC consent, not a confirmed withdrawal. The research did not locate a separate SEC order confirming final approval of the request. Regulators have not publicly stated whether they have granted it.

What This Product Would Have Been

The original S-1 filing described a fund designed to track the performance of stETH, Lido’s liquid staking token, minus Trust operating expenses. stETH represents deposited Ether plus accrued staking rewards, making it a yield-bearing version of ETH that users can hold without locking assets on-chain.

The proposed ETF would have given traditional investors regulated exposure to staked Ethereum returns without needing to interact with Lido’s protocol directly. That concept is now shelved, at least under this registration.

VanEck’s Broader ETF Activity

The decision does not affect VanEck’s other crypto ETF work. The firm has been active on several fronts with the SEC; it has amended its BNB ETF filings alongside Grayscale, and later updated its spot BNB ETF to include a staking objective. Those products remain active pursuits.

The Lido staking ETF withdrawal is specific to this registration and this product. The filing does not signal a broader retreat from Ethereum-related filings or staking concepts generally.

Ethereum itself was trading at $2,454.48 at the time of this report, up 3.43% over the prior 24 hours.

Ethereum market snapshot $2,454.48 ETH price in the supplied market-data snapshot. Market context only; it does not establish the reason for VanEck’s filing. ETH 24-hour move +3.43% ETH’s 24-hour change in the supplied market-data snapshot. This is market context, not an explanation for the withdrawal request.

Why Investors Should Pay Attention

The withdrawal request narrows the field of staked Ethereum ETF candidates currently in front of the SEC. VanEck was among the first firms to explore the concept of wrapping Lido’s stETH inside a regulated fund structure. Walking away from that registration, even without explanation, is a signal worth tracking.

VanEck’s filing gives no reason for the decision. Whether the choice reflects commercial strategy, regulatory feedback, or something else entirely is not stated anywhere in the document. Drawing conclusions from silence would be speculation.

What is documented: a fund that was proposed, never approved, never launched, and is now being formally unwound at the registration level. The question investors and issuers will be watching is whether any other firm picks up the staked-ETH-in-an-ETF concept, or whether this withdrawal marks a wider pause on the product category.
