Prediction market protocol Trueo has announced it is migrating from Base, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 network, to the Ethereum mainnet. The move has drawn a public endorsement from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who welcomed the project as a new competitor in decentralized prediction markets.
Trueo initially launched on Base in March 2025 as a test environment and now identifies Ethereum as the best fit for its vision of a permissionless and trustworthy platform. The team cited Ethereum's network effects, deeper liquidity, integration potential, and stronger decentralization guarantees as the driving rationale. Trueo said Base was the right choice when it launched, as Ethereum gas fees were higher, but said mainnet now offers greater integration potential.
For existing users, the transition is designed to be frictionless. The migration will proceed seamlessly with operations uninterrupted. Users should not create new markets on Base that expire after January 31, 2027, while existing markets will remain accessible, TRUE tokens can be migrated with no deadline, and future staking and liquidity rewards will take place on Ethereum.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin endorsed the transition, welcoming Trueo as a strong new entrant on Layer 1. Buterin highlighted the project's commitment to decentralization and ethical principles, noting its rejection of "corporate-flavored mediocrity" in favor of exploring meaningful applications of economic primitives.
The endorsement fits a broader stance Buterin has taken on the prediction market sector. Buterin has urged the prediction market industry to "build the next generation of finance, not corposlop." He has also argued that prediction markets are drifting toward pure speculation, and suggested they should evolve into hedging mechanisms designed to protect consumers and businesses from price volatility. Trueo's focus on decentralized, permissionless infrastructure appears to align closely with that vision.
The migration adds to a broader narrative of projects returning to Ethereum's base layer as the network's fee environment and developer tooling continue to mature. For Trueo, landing on Layer 1 with the public backing of Buterin himself is a notable early signal as it competes for users and liquidity in an increasingly crowded prediction market space.
