Unchained Premium recently featured Kevin Huynh, the co-founder and CEO of XASH, to discuss the company’s new rewards platform for stablecoin holders on the Solana blockchain. The platform delivers tokenized gold, specifically Paxos Gold (PAXG), as rewards to users who participate in Solana DeFi venues. Huynh outlined how XASH pivoted from its original idea of creating a gold-backed synthetic dollar, opting instead for a rewards model that aligns with both user demand and operational feasibility.

From synthetic dollar to tokenized gold rewards

XASH originally pursued a gold-backed synthetic dollar but later dropped this plan due to the high costs and complexities of maintaining the required hedging operations. Instead, the company introduced a rewards platform where users who hold stablecoins on Solana can earn shares of a PAXG gold pool. These rewards are determined by monthly XP points, which act as a scorecard reflecting user activity across supported DeFi protocols such as Kamino and Orca.

XASH initially aimed to launch a gold-pegged synthetic dollar, but the need for a constant and expensive hedging operation led the team to shelve this approach in favor of a direct gold rewards system.

By connecting a Phantom or Solflare wallet, users can interact with DeFi protocols and earn XP points without depositing funds directly with XASH. This allows decentralized engagement and ensures security for participants. Huynh noted that the platform’s rewards are distributed in PAXG rather than stablecoins, cash back, or utility tokens, aligning with early adopter interest in gold as a store of value.

Origins of the rewards pool and business model

The gold rewards distributed to users originate from a market development fund that is backed by venture capital investors. Huynh emphasized that the long-term vision is to serve stablecoin issuers as primary customers, helping them incentivize adoption and drive distribution of their tokens within Solana’s decentralized finance ecosystem.

As further context, Huynh referenced incentives for PayPal USD vaults on Kamino, illustrating how issuers allocate significant resources to promote new stablecoins. He stated that XASH’s model leverages these marketing efforts through their gold reward mechanism, making the process mutually beneficial for users and token issuers.

Mini dictionary: Paxos Gold (PAXG), an ERC-20 token backed by physical gold and issued by Paxos Trust Company, allows users to own fractional amounts of gold on the blockchain and redeem tokens for physical metal if desired.

Why Solana was chosen over Ethereum

Huynh also explained XASH’s decision to launch on Solana, citing reasons such as lower transaction costs and faster settlement compared to Ethereum. He stated that these technical advantages align well with the company’s focus on streamlined user experience and efficient reward distribution. The platform has now moved from a closed beta to a public beta, with Huynh highlighting feedback from the initial wave of users who prefer gold rewards over cash incentives.

Stablecoin issuers seeking broader market presence are the eventual customers XASH aims to serve, while the platform’s structure offers direct value to early adopters through gold-based incentives.

XASH developed its business model to remain effective regardless of upcoming regulatory developments, including legislation such as the Clarity Act. This approach ensures the platform can adapt quickly as the legal landscape around digital assets evolves.
