Key Insights
- XRP Ledger (XRPL) Permission Delegation amendment is set to activate today, October 8, adding granular account controls.
- Users can delegate up to 10 specific permissions for actions such as payments and trustline management without sharing private keys.
- The upgrade could help token issuers separate compliance, operations, and treasury roles, strengthening XRPL’s institutional appeal.
The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is set to activate a major upgrade on October 8, 2026, with the PermissionDelegationV1_1 amendment.
The new code amendment allows account holders to give specific permissions (up to 10 various permissions per delegate) to other XRPL accounts, removing the need to share private keys with anyone.
For example, an issuer account can delegate payment sending and trust line management functions to a specific delegate account.
PermissionDelegationV1_1 amendment attained supermajority on the XRP Ledger’s governance dashboard and is scheduled to activate at 21:25 UTC today.
The proposed upgrade replaces the initial Permission Delegation code that had a critical bug and officially adopts the XLS-75 technical specification.
How Delegation Works on the XRP Ledger (XRPL)?
Under the new rules, an account (the delegator) sends a special DelegateSet transaction to assign permissions to another account (the delegate).
Each DelegateSet specifies which actions the delegate is allowed to perform. XRPL’s documentation explains that “each delegate can be granted up to 10 permissions.”

These permissions cover many common tasks (payments, trustline operations, freezing assets, etc.), but exclude high-risk functions (such as changing account keys or granting further rights).
Crucially, delegates use their own signing keys, so the delegator’s master key never leaves cold storage.
In effect, the delegate can submit transactions “as if” it were the delegator, but only within the allowed permission set.
This design limits risk: even if a delegate’s key were compromised, the master key remains safe, and only those narrow privileges would be exposed.
Institutional Use Cases and Security
Industry observers say the feature is a boon for issuers of regulated assets. For example, Ripple’s stablecoin product lead Lauren Berta calls it an “unlock” for institutions on XRPL.
Stablecoin issuers typically separate duties across teams — compliance officers approve transfers, treasury staff handle large payments, legal teams review trustlines — without giving each person full account control.
Permission Delegation codifies this separation of duties on-chain. Berta notes that *“distinct teams typically manage separate responsibilities,” and Delegation “brings that model to the XRP Ledger at the protocol level.”
Community contributor Hussein Zangana (known as Vet) similarly describes the upgrade as a foundational compliance and operations building block for corporate adoption of XRPL.

In short, issuers can grant each role exactly the rights it needs and revoke them instantly if needed.
For security, not all functions can be delegated. XRPL ensures delegates cannot escalate their own privileges.
The delegator retains ultimate control: it chooses which granular permissions to grant, and it can rescind them at any time.
The XRPL docs also highlight that this model lets master keys stay offline for safety while day-to-day tasks run on delegated keys.
In a clever twist, RippleX engineer Mayukha Vadari points out that delegation even aids use cases like “blackholed” issuer accounts: before an issuer goes offline, it could delegate a few remaining tasks (such as account domain updates) to a trusted address, preserving limited access after lock-down. Overall, Permission Delegation provides flexibility without compromising core security.
Broader Ecosystem Momentum of XRP Ledger (XRPL)
This upgrade comes as broader developments strengthen the XRP Ledger’s position in tokenization.
A recent Token Terminal report found that XRPL recorded the largest year-to-date increase in tokenized commodity market capitalization among tracked chains, adding about $2.2 billion through October 6, 2026, compared with roughly $1.6 billion on Ethereum.
The ledger is also gaining traction in regulated markets. In October, Ripple and Brazil’s central securities depository, CSD BR, partnered to mirror BTG Pactual fund shares on the XRP Ledger.
The setup enables near-real-time on-chain auditing while CSD BR retains the official records and participant controls.
Such developments, from commodity tokenization to cross-border securities deals, highlight the ledger’s institutional appeal.
XRPL’s Permission Delegation feature goes live today, adding on-chain controls that directly address issuers’ and institutions’ needs.
By enabling fine-grained account permissions without key-sharing, the upgrade strengthens XRPL’s toolkit for compliance and security.
As one analysis puts it, it brings “separation of duties” to the protocol level, a key step for crypto networks courting enterprise adoption.
XRP Price Analysis in Focus
XRP price has dropped 3.7% in the last 24 hours, with bears trying to find a bottom. Ali Martinez suggests that XRP crypto has a chance to make a short-term bottom.
In addition, cryptoinsightuk was more cautious and noted that XRP’s four-hour Relative Strength Index (RSI) is in oversold territory, suggesting a potential for a recovery rally. Nevertheless, RSI is not a confirmation of a bottom; it only suggests that bears have pushed the price significantly.
What’s Next?
The analyst expected a move towards $1.30, which would create a fair value gap and a higher low near the bottom of the range. For a more comprehensive confirmation of a bottom, CryptoinsightUK is observing the price and RSI strength.
A lower low with a higher RSI low would suggest a bullish divergence, which could be a sign of a base. On the contrary, bulls may find it difficult to rally XRP from the oversold region unless there is a significant change in the trend.
XRP price chart suggests a descending triangle, according to cryptoinsightuk. Therefore, if the bears continue to push the price lower, the recent downside break may turn out to be a fake.

Consequently, if the price continues to rise, it would make a substantial upside move towards the top of the range. On the contrary, there is still a possibility that the bears will push the price below the range lows.
Accordingly, cryptoinsightuk noted that $1.22 is the next target for the bulls if XRP crypto sweeps the range lows before reversing higher. For now, the most accurate move for traders is to watch for a more significant confirmation of a bullish move. A higher low suggests that the bears are losing strength, while a lower low indicates that the bears are gaining momentum.
