Elite Threshold Climbs in October
The bar for joining the most exclusive tier of $XRP holders has moved higher. According to data from @xrpscan, the minimum balance required to rank in the top 0.01% of XRP wallets rose from roughly 3.65 million XRP to 3.83 million XRP in October. The shift indicates that the largest wallets on the XRP Ledger are accumulating at a faster pace than new entrants are closing the gap.
Further down the rankings, the picture looks different. The threshold for the top 10% slipped to 2,088 XRP, consistent with a broader trend of growing retail participation on the ledger. The XRP Ledger recorded 8,194,963 funded accounts as of September 2026, according to XRPScan data , and as more smaller wallets are activated, entry points into lower tiers naturally compress.
Who Is Behind the Biggest Wallets?
On-chain data has clear limits when it comes to identifying who actually controls a wallet. A single large address could belong to a centralized exchange holding customer deposits, an institution, a fund, or a wealthy individual. One person can control multiple wallets, while exchange addresses can collectively custody assets belonging to thousands of customers.
XRPScan data shows 9,303 accounts in its XRP rich list. Ripple is listed at the top with 31 accounts, which currently contain approximately 4.095 billion XRP, alongside approximately 35.7 billion XRP held in escrow. Beyond Ripple, institutional names such as Bithumb, Binance, Uphold, and UPbit dominate the list of the top 10 largest individual addresses, with exchange wallets routinely holding between 1.4 billion and 1.8 billion XRP each.
The October rise in the top 0.01% threshold adds to a pattern where the distance between the largest wallets and the rest of the network continues to widen, even as participation at the retail level grows. Whether that reflects deliberate accumulation or simply exchange inflows remains impossible to determine from balance data alone.
