A Bitcoin-Free Blueprint for Advisors

Grayscale has launched a suite of model portfolios aimed at financial advisors, and its Digital Assets Next Gen strategy gives $XRP a 26.11% allocation, placing it as the second-largest holding in the fund. Ether (ETH) takes the top slot at 42.34% and Solana (SOL) follows at 21.09%. Combined, those three assets account for nearly 89% of the portfolio.

Notably, the model excludes Bitcoin entirely and spans seven crypto funds. A model portfolio is essentially a published recipe: Grayscale selects the assets and the weights, and an advisor copies that mix into client accounts using the firm's exchange-traded funds. The structure is designed to lower the barrier for traditional wealth managers looking to add digital assets to client holdings without building allocations from scratch. Beyond the top three, the remaining weight is spread across Hyperliquid, Chainlink, Avalanche, and Sui.

Context and Caveats

Grayscale's Global Head of Distribution, Laurie Katz, framed the launch around convenience, noting that advisors are increasingly looking for ways to bring digital assets into client portfolios without having to build and maintain allocations asset by asset.

Grayscale charges no separate fee for the models, and the underlying funds carry an average expense ratio of 0.23%. That said, the track record is thin. The model shows a 30.69% net gain since July 27, but that figure reflects just five weeks of history built on one strong August, with the rest of the return table empty.

Six of the model's seven underlying funds currently trade below where they launched. The Grayscale XRP Trust ETF (GXRP), a key vehicle for the XRP slice, sits 38.51% below its launch price. Advisors will need to weigh those figures carefully when presenting the strategy to clients.

The Next Gen portfolio represents a clear signal of where Grayscale sees demand growing: altcoin-heavy, advisor-facing products that sit alongside, rather than inside, more established Bitcoin-focused vehicles.
