Yearn Finance leads the pack on developer output
Yearn Finance (@yearnfi) has taken the top spot in Santiment's 30-day yield farming development ranking, recording 7.97 daily notable GitHub events. That figure is close to double the score of second-placed Katana (@katana), underlining how wide the gap is at the top of the table. Yearn's market cap stands at $75.3M, placing it at rank 308 by size.
$AAVE is the only large-cap protocol in the top ten, sitting in third place with a market cap of $1.55B but generating less than a third of Yearn's development activity. Below Aave, market caps thin out sharply: Beefy (@beefyfinance) sits at $3.18M, Gearbox (@GearboxProtocol) at $4.29M, and Alchemix (@AlchemixFi) at $5.26M.
What the metric measures and why it matters
Santiment's ranking is based on notable GitHub events rather than raw commit counts. The screener ranks yield farming projects using GitHub data pulled from official project repositories, filtering out automated updates and low-value changes to focus on meaningful signals such as feature additions, improvements, and maintenance work. This approach allows for fairer comparison between projects that use GitHub for issue tracking and those that rely on external tools, and it prevents inflated scores from teams that discuss plans without actually building.
The practical implication is that the metric tracks effort, not revenue or market traction. Over the 30-day window, Katana, YieldBasis, and Unitas climbed the ranking, while @aave, Gearbox, and Alchemix slipped. Santiment notes that strong development activity does not guarantee price appreciation, but argues that sustained builder engagement is one of the clearest indicators of long-term viability, and that projects which continue to ship during downturns are often better positioned when conditions improve.
Santiment plans to update the yield farming development leaderboard on a monthly basis, allowing investors and analysts to track which projects are accelerating, slowing down, or quietly losing momentum.
