Blockchain project Yellow, which previously received a $10 million personal investment from Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, is now facing significant criticism from the XRP community after the listing of its token. The controversy centers on asset sales conducted from a wallet linked to the development team.
Price Discrepancy Fuels Debate
The Yellow token was simultaneously launched on both the Ethereum and XRP Ledger networks. The lack of a direct technical bridge between these blockchains, combined with high initial demand, led to noticeably higher prices on the XRP Ledger compared to Ethereum.
Yellow is marketed as a project that aims to develop exchange and consensus solutions for AI agents. The core of the debate revolves around whether the price discrepancy between the networks was exploited.
Project representative Burak Cem stated in private communications that the transactions in question were arbitrage actions carried out from the team’s wallet to minimize price differences and align rates more closely.
During the contentious period, tokens worth approximately 20,000 XRP were sold from a wallet associated with the team on the XRPL market. The team presented these sales as an attempt to stabilize pricing, but part of the community found the explanation insufficient.
Kaj Leroy, a well-known developer in the XRP Ledger ecosystem, argued that conducting a full-fledged arbitrage without a working cross-chain bridge is technically dubious. This objection heightened suspicions regarding the intent behind the sales.
Critics contend that such sales on the first day of trading resemble extracting value at the expense of individual early buyers’ liquidity.
Trust Issue Intensifies
Tensions escalated after social media influencer JC Rivera accused the XRP community of systematic skepticism towards new ventures. The opposing view, led by Kaj Leroy, stressed that this cautious approach is backed by on-chain data.
Community members adopting a critical stance argued that external teams emphasize user acquisition rhetoric but, in practice, appear to focus on rapidly profiting from the liquidity provided by XRP holders.
To date, Yellow has not issued an additional official statement regarding the latest developments. Amidst the unfolding events, it seems the local community’s trust in the project is under considerable strain.
