ZetaChain token holders voted to approve a plan to sunset the project’s own blockchain and reissue ZETA on Solana. The governance measure passed with 99.4% of the vote and closed Sunday, September 20.
Three years ago, the project raised $27 million to connect blockchains. Now it’s dropping that pitch to pursue a consumer AI product.
Proposal 68 cleared a 40% quorum with no shutdown date set
The vote on Proposal 68 closed at 10:58 a.m. ET Sunday, according to the project’s governance portal. Turnout was 58%, well above the 40% quorum, with “no” and “abstain” both at 0.3%.
The proposal keeps ZetaChain’s Layer 1 up and running while contributors work out the mechanics.
A second follow-up vote will set the block height for a balance snapshot and name the shutdown block. It will also publish how holders claim tokens and how assets are pulled from connected chains.
ZetaChain hasn’t set a date for the second vote yet because it wants to wait for exchanges to confirm swap agreements. For now, staking on the old chain continues.
The team announced on September 17 that it was still working out how staking and rewards would work on Solana.
The plan is for ZETA to be converted into a native Solana SPL token at a 1:1 rate. The ticker and total supply remain unchanged.
Vesting schedules remain unchanged with original dates, and token decimal precision is reduced from 18 to 9.
ZETA on Ethereum or BNB Chain is not included in the migration. ZetaChain’s guidance says most holders should not need to do anything.

Anuma has more than 300,000 users divided among 35 AI models
The reason for walking away is Anuma, a private multi-model AI app the team put out in February. ZetaChain itself claims to have over 300,000 users on Anuma and over 1 million requests across 35 AI models.
ZETA holders can lock tokens for credits to spend on AI usage.
“What Solana’s AI stack still lacks is the application layer: an app people use every day, with memory that belongs to them and travels across models, apps, and agents,” ZetaChain team wrote.
The proposal calls ZetaChain’s own chain overhead, since every Cosmos SDK patch must be coordinated across dozens of validators.
According to the team, AI tools make bugs easier to find, as the August 25 patch showed, so more patches are coming.
Last month, Cosmos Labs announced attacks against six Cosmos EVM chains, but not ZetaChain. Attackers cashed out about $5.7 million.
ZetaChain stopped cross-chain transfers after its GatewayZEVM smart contract was hacked back in April.
ZETA jumped about 64% in the past 24 hours, to ~$0.063 on Monday.
