  • Aave’s proposed framework standardizes risk assessments for assets, bridges, monitoring systems, and blockchain networks.
  • New bridge requirements include independent verifiers, security controls, quarterly reviews, and incident response procedures.
  • Automated monitoring tools could freeze reserves or adjust exposure levels when predefined risk indicators are detected.

Aave's risk management process is set for a major update after LlamaRisk proposed a standardized framework covering all assets on Aave V3, V4, and Aave Horizon. According to Aave, the proposal establishes common rules for asset onboarding, bridge evaluations, chain assessments, and automated monitoring systems. The framework would apply during listings, quarterly reviews, parameter updates, and asset deprecation decisions.

Framework Covers Assets, Bridges, And Chains

According to the proposal, the framework organizes risk management into four separate layers. These include Asset Risk, Bridging Risk, Monitoring and Automated Risk Oracle Systems, and Chain Risk.

The first layer focuses on the full lifecycle of listed assets. Consequently, it introduces requirements for onboarding, ongoing due diligence, material-change reviews, and possible deprecation processes.

The proposal also requires every asset to fit within a governance-approved asset class before listing. Additionally, issuers must disclose audits, bug bounty programs, governance structures, operational setups, and legal arrangements where applicable.

Beyond asset reviews, the framework extends evaluations across all chains where assets operate. Therefore, risk assessments would include bridge structures, oracle configurations, access controls, and contract differences.

Bridge Standards Receive Greater Attention

The second layer addresses risks linked to cross-chain infrastructure. According to LlamaRisk, every bridge route carrying Aave exposure would require detailed topology disclosures and minimum security standards.

The proposal calls for at least three independent verifiers across bridge routes. Furthermore, it requires timelocks, rate limits, pause mechanisms, and institutional-grade custody controls.

Bridge providers and asset issuers would also maintain dedicated monitoring teams. Meanwhile, both parties would need documented incident response procedures and continuous communication channels.

The framework further introduces quarterly bridge reviews and additional assessments whenever major infrastructure changes occur.

Automated Monitoring Forms Core Defense Layer

The third layer focuses on continuous monitoring and automated responses. According to the proposal, Aave would use automated monitoring systems to track governance activity, infrastructure changes, bridge events, and asset behavior.

The framework also outlines Automated Freeze Guardians and Supply and Borrow Cap Oracles. These mechanisms could automatically reduce exposure or freeze reserves when risk indicators appear.

Finally, the Chain Risk layer evaluates whether Aave should deploy on a blockchain network at all. Reviews would examine governance controls, decentralization, liquidity, operational history, security architecture, monitoring support, and ecosystem infrastructure before deployment decisions move forward.
