The Trump administration’s preference for a weaker US dollar could be a major boost for Bitcoin (BTC), according to a new report from crypto asset manager Bitwise.

“When it comes to tariff pressure, the one thing I am most certain of is this: The Trump administration wants a significantly weaker dollar,” Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan said in a report.

The comments came after a volatile week in financial markets, where cryptocurrencies have surged sharply. The recovery came after President Trump announced a 90-day suspension of tariffs for countries that do not retaliate against the U.S., a move that eased investor tensions.

Bitwise highlighted the long-standing inverse relationship between Bitcoin and the US Dollar Index (DXY), pointing out that BTC has been negatively correlated with the dollar over the past five years. “When the dollar goes down, Bitcoin goes up,” the firm said, suggesting that this trend will continue in the near term.

But Bitwise sees broader implications beyond short-term market movements. “A shakeup in the global macro system creates an opportunity for new reserve assets to emerge,” Hougan said. The report suggests that a shift away from the U.S. dollar as the global reserve currency could pave the way for assets like bitcoin and gold to take on larger roles on the world stage.

Despite the recent market volatility, Bitwise has maintained its bullish stance on Bitcoin, maintaining its year-end price target at $200,000.
