Bitget Wallet Surpasses MetaMask in Downloads in July

Self-custody wallet Bitget surpassed MetaMask as the most downloaded wallet in July. Data from CryptoRank, a crypto analytics platform, shows that the Bitget Wallet app recorded 1.6 million downloads in July 2024, surpassing MetaMask by 100,000 downloads.

The Bitget Wallet is owned and operated by the Bitget crypto exchange. Bitget’s impressive downloads mirror its growing popularity in crypto. Other wallets within the top 10 wallets by downloads in July include Phantom Wallet (667,000 downloads), Coinbase Wallet (475,000 downloads), and SafePal (157,000 downloads).

Bitget Wallet Claims Top Spot in Downloads, Surpassing MetaMask

As of August 14th, Bitget officially surpassed the 30 million mark. Crypto exchanges are always competing for market share. While some were surprised that Bitget Wallet managed to surpass MetaMask in downloads, others pointed out that most Web3 users have already downloaded MetaMask. Interestingly, MetaMask recently partnered with Mastercard for crypto debit cards.

What’s Behind Bitget’s Record Downloads?

The Bitget Wallet app has enjoyed massive downloads in 2024. As of January, Bitget recorded around 130,000 downloads. July’s number means Bitget has seen over 1000% increase in wallet downloads in 2024 alone.

What’s behind this? First, the growth is thanks to more people trading on-chain and the explosive rise of memecoins. Furthermore, Alvin Kan, the chief operating officer of Bitget Wallet, said the wallet grew quickly because it was one of the first to fully support the Open Network (TON) mainnet. Last month, TON became the most popular network on Bitget Wallet. It surpassed major networks like Polygon and BNB Smart Chain.

Another big boost for Bitget came in March 2024 when they launched their own token, called Bitget Wallet Token (BWB). Since then, the number of users has shot up by more than 50%. This new token led to increased trading activity, especially in places like Japan and Nigeria.
