Solana Mobile, the Web3 smartphone brand under the public blockchain Solana, announced on social media platform X today (19th) that its latest generation Web3 phone, "Seeker," has entered the testing phase and is expected to officially begin shipping this summer.

What is Solana Seeker?

Solana Seeker is the latest generation Web3 smartphone from Solana Mobile, following the Saga. It is developed to promote the application of blockchain technology on mobile devices.

Key features of this phone include:

  • Hardware and Software Integration: The phone runs on the Google Android system and features a built-in hardware SeedVault wallet. It supports fingerprint unlocking, double-tap transactions, and a seamless interface to ensure the secure management of crypto assets.
  • Seeker Genesis Token: Each phone will generate a non-transferable Seeker Genesis Token, used to unlock exclusive rewards, enhancements, and content access. This feature is similar to the Genesis NFT of the previous Solana Saga, aiming to enhance user engagement.
  • Solana dApp Store 2.0: The pre-loaded dApp store supports multiple categories such as payments, DeFi, DePIN, NFTs, AI, and games, offering a rich selection of blockchain applications.
  • Custom Wallet Experience: Developed in partnership with Solflare, the custom software wallet promises a better user experience than the previous Saga, especially suitable for cryptocurrency beginners.
  • Design Details: The phone's exterior features a glossy cut design, and the right frame has a Solana-themed visual identity, enhancing brand recognition.

(According to public information, the Saga phone is equipped with a flagship-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and a 4110 mAh battery; it has 512 GB of storage, 12 GB of RAM, a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen, and two cameras: a 50-megapixel and a 12-megapixel.)

Seeker Currently Priced at $500 USD

Seeker pre-orders opened last year, with an early bird price of $450 USD (later increased to $500 USD). I was also an early pre-orderer. If you sold new airdropped meme coins (MEW, WUF, PAW... etc.) shortly after receiving them, like I did, you should have already recouped the original cost of the phone.

Official orders are still being accepted at a price of $500 USD, but it's uncertain how many future airdrops will be available. (Officials previously stated that the second-generation phone has partnered with several popular community projects, but did not explicitly mention any airdrops.)

Can Solana Seeker Add Fuel to SOL?

Most phone buyers are pursuing meme coin airdrops, but the Solana meme ecosystem has recently cooled down. Coupled with the selling pressure from the unlocking of large amounts of tokens, this continues to dampen market buying power. SOL has also dropped by 35% in the past month, trading at $125.2 USD at the time of writing.

Whether the Seeker, with its hardware and software integration, can bring a new experience and become a growth driver for SOL after its official release remains to be seen.
