Institutional Money Moves Out of Bitcoin

On-chain analytics platform Arkham flagged a notable shift in how BlackRock clients are positioning across digital assets this week. The firm's $IBIT Bitcoin ETF recorded a net outflow of $60 million, a move that analysts are reading as a deliberate tactical rebalancing rather than a broader exit from crypto.

The data fits into a wider pattern. During the week of June 22 through June 26, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw total redemptions of approximately $1.79 billion, with IBIT responsible for roughly 73% of those outflows.Capital rotation into other asset classes has been a consistent theme in 2026, with institutional attention shifting between competing opportunities.

The same period that saw Bitcoin outflows also brought a measurable uptick in Ethereum allocations. BlackRock clients directed more than $20 million into $ETH instruments during the week, according to Arkham data. This marks what the source describes as the first significant rotation between the two largest digital assets since the stabilization of the 2026 fiscal cycle.

That interest in Ethereum products is not isolated to a single week. Ethereum ETFs attracted $196.4 million in net inflows from July 14 through July 21, 2026.BlackRock's ETHA accounted for most of the demand, including $58.3 million on July 14, $52.8 million on July 21, and $31.7 million on July 17.

Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded $105 million in net inflows during the week of July 13 to 17, the strongest weekly figure since April, and two consecutive positive weeks ended an eight-week outflow streak.ETHA's brand, distribution reach, and institutional trust give it a structural pull that smaller issuers cannot easily replicate, which explains why BlackRock's ETF inflows have driven ETH price action more than any other single product in the category.

Whether this week's $IBIT outflow and $ETH inflow combination represents the start of a durable trend or a short-term tactical adjustment remains to be seen. The concentration of flows in BlackRock products on both sides of the trade, however, underlines how much influence a single asset manager now holds over the direction of institutional crypto capital.
