From October 26th to November 2nd 2024, the much-anticipated “Blockathon”, the BlockchainUNN Conference 3.0 experience was held, marking a milestone in Southeast Nigeria’s blockchain landscape.
This intensive, week-long event showcased a vibrant mix of educational sessions, innovation challenges, and networking, designed to deepen the local community’s engagement in blockchain technology and its transformative potential.
Event Highlights:
Kicking off the event was a Hackathon which was held virtually and physically and designed to give participants access to leading industry insights.
Day 1 of Blockathon kickstarted the hackathon phase, featuring a virtual workshop with Kevin Chibuoyim from Arbitrum, who unpacked how Layer 2 solutions are driving blockchain scalability and security.
Day 2 welcomed Juju Boy from Lisk, offering participants a guided tour into creating accessible blockchain applications with the Lisk platform.
The hackathon moved to a physical format on Day 3 at the Lion Science Park building in UNN where teams came together to develop projects using blockchain to address real-world challenges.
Days 3 to 5 were dedicated to intense brainstorming, coding, and prototyping of team’s projects.

Capped by Day 5’s Project Presentation Day, where participants shared their blockchain projects solutions tackling issues such as financial inclusion, data security, and social innovation.
Conference Day – Learning, Building, and Networking, Over 2000 attendees.
On Day 6, BlockchainUNN’s conference day featured an exciting program, including keynote speeches, panels, and breakout sessions led by top industry experts.
Attendees learnt about topics ranging from the future of decentralized finance to blockchain’s role in African economic transformation.
Breakout sessions provided forward-looking perspectives, while the networking sessions encouraged attendees to build connections and explore collaborative opportunities within the blockchain space.
3 Winning teams showcased outstanding creativity and received a combined prize of $2000 (NGN 3.4 million naira) as support for their project to continue it’s growth.
Also, School fees scholarships were awarded by the Enugu State Government, SMSE Agency to 6 students and 4 by Shedrach Ogbonna respectively, at the event.
BlockchainUNN Bootcamps
To extend the impact of this event, BlockchainUNN introduced two intensive bootcamps:
Web2 & Web 3 Developers Bootcamp: A 10 week long bootcamp to equip developers with the skills to create blockchain applications, covering the fundamentals of smart contracts, decentralized applications (dApps), and practical project work.
