Coinbase and Webull bring regulated crypto to Canadian investors

@Coinbase and Webull have formally announced a global expansion of their partnership, with Canada as the latest market to benefit from regulated crypto trading and institutional-grade custody. The collaboration builds on an existing arrangement in which Coinbase's Crypto-as-a-Service (CaaS) platform serves as the backbone of Webull's crypto offering, giving customers access to $BTC, $ETH, and a growing range of other digital assets through Webull's familiar interface.

For Canadian users, the service integrates directly with existing Webull Canada accounts, meaning investors who already trade equities and options on the platform can add digital assets without opening a separate account. At launch, the platform supports six digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, with commission-free trading available around the clock.

Regulatory framework underpins the launch

The expansion is underpinned by two regulatory approvals. Coinbase Canada, Inc. is registered as a Restricted Dealer across all Canadian provinces and territories, providing the compliance framework needed to operate in the country. Separately, Webull Canada Crypto Limited received authorisation from the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) in June 2026, clearing the way for the platform to offer crypto services to retail clients.

The timing reflects growing demand. A survey by the Ontario Securities Commission found that crypto asset ownership in Canada has risen to 25% of the population, up from 10% in 2023, pointing to a significant pool of investors seeking regulated access to digital assets.

For Coinbase, the Canadian launch is another step in building out its CaaS business, a model that generates revenue from powering third-party platforms rather than relying solely on its own retail exchange. The partnership with Webull, which has more than 25 million global customers, already covers the United States, Brazil, and Australia. Canada is the latest addition to that footprint.

Michael Constantino, CEO of Webull Canada, noted that the Coinbase infrastructure delivers "the scale and reliability our clients expect," while Coinbase's CaaS platform gives Webull access to liquidity, compliance infrastructure, and institutional-grade custody without building those systems in-house.
