The Ethereum Foundation has established ETHSystems, a new for-profit company focused on developing privacy technology for banks and financial institutions using Ethereum. The company will commercialize privacy solutions that were previously developed within the Ethereum Foundation.
ETHSystems will focus on building technologies such as confidential stablecoin transfers, private bond issuance, cross-chain settlement systems, and open-source protocol specifications. The solutions are designed to help financial institutions use public blockchain infrastructure while keeping sensitive transaction data confidential.
In a post on X, ETHSystems said operating as a for-profit company would allow it to work directly with institutional clients. The company added that it will continue developing the privacy technologies it previously built within the Ethereum Foundation, now as an independent commercial entity.
Financial institutions have shown growing interest in using public blockchains for financial infrastructure. While tokenized assets and stablecoins continue to see broader adoption, many banks and asset managers remain cautious about transacting on fully transparent public networks due to confidentiality concerns.
ETHSystems is developing modular privacy systems that allow transaction information to be disclosed selectively while preserving Ethereum's security guarantees. The company is backed by BitMine, SharpLink, Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin, SNZ, and several other investors focused on the Ethereum ecosystem.
