Ethereum has reached a key milestone in its supply dynamics, with approximately 35% of all ETH now staked on the network. Despite this significant development, the cryptocurrency has struggled to translate the increasingly tight supply into lasting price momentum.
According to data published by Ethereum.org, more than 43 million ETH are currently staked. This level represents over one-third of Ethereum’s total circulating supply and highlights the growing commitment of holders to securing the proof-of-stake blockchain.
Validators, who are responsible for processing transactions and maintaining network integrity, must lock up ETH to participate in this role. In return, they receive rewards, although staked ETH is not removed from circulation permanently and can be withdrawn after meeting established waiting periods.
The supply implications are notable. More coins are now locked in staking, reducing the amount of ETH readily available for trading on exchanges. At the same time, reserve balances held on centralized exchanges continue to trend lower, further tightening the immediate liquidity on the market.
Mini dictionary: Ethereum staking, the process where participants lock ETH to support network validation and earn rewards. Staked ETH helps secure the network and reduce supply available for trading.
Metric Current Value Total ETH staked 43 million+ Staking share of supply 35% Key price support $2,400 Resistance level $2,600Despite the shrinking supply, ETH has recently slipped below $2,400, undermining short-term bullish outlooks. The divergence is clear: not only are more coins being removed from immediate market circulation due to staking and exchange withdrawals, but buyers have not yet provided the momentum required for a decisive price rebound.
Coinpaper recently analyzed whether Ethereum’s supply conditions could eventually force a price move if new demand materializes. However, movements of coins off exchanges do not automatically result in higher prices, as the coins may be shifted for various non-trading purposes, including self-custody and staking.
ETH’s price weakness has coincided with broader regulatory uncertainty and mixed performance by crypto-focused exchange-traded funds (ETFs). While institutional money returned earlier this week, including a session with $121 million in ETF inflows, the recovery has so far failed to spark a sustained upward trend.
Staking activity has reached record highs, but only a meaningful increase in new demand can convert a shrinking liquid supply into a catalyst for higher prices.
Recent price action has fluctuated. ETH challenged the $2,600 region only days before slipping below $2,400, reminding traders that improved supply conditions alone do not guarantee bullish outcomes.
For now, analysts closely watch whether ETH can reclaim the $2,400 to $2,500 range, a development that may shift attention back to the $2,600 resistance zone and, if momentum builds, the more ambitious $3,000 target.
With more than 43 million ETH staked and exchange reserves at their lowest in years, Ethereum’s price path depends increasingly on investor demand. A breakout above $2,500 could reinforce bullish sentiment, particularly if accompanied by renewed ETF and spot market interest.
Multiple factors continue to influence ETH’s performance, including the broader macroeconomic outlook, regulatory developments, and institutional participation. If overall demand remains subdued, the current high staking ratio may persist alongside price consolidation.
Ethereum’s record staking now amplifies price sensitivity to demand shocks, making any future surge in new buying potentially more impactful than before.
