First look at Exodus gameplay: A blend of Sci-Fi adventure and BioWare’s legacy

Archetype Entertainment released a gameplay trailer for Exodus, the studio’s new sci-fi role-playing game. Drawing heavily from Mass Effect, the game will have a post-Earth setting where gamers explore the universe and human colonies. Matthew McConaughey is also set to star in the game, but his role has yet to be disclosed.

As gamers await the next Mass Effect game, Archetype Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast developed Exodus, a new AAA game. The sci-fi game is set to be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Gamers will explore the vast cosmos in the game, engaging alien life and uncovering engaging mysteries.

In the trailer released, gamers finally got a glimpse of Exodus’s space travel mechanics, which is shown by a ship flying around an Earth-like planet. The game’s trailer also introduced Jun, a traveler who is set to feature as the protagonist. In the trailer, Jun is capable of wielding unique powers known as celestial tech and is part of an unnamed ship’s crew. The trailer dialogue suggests that the crew will traverse the vast space, exploring hostile and mysterious sites in search of riches. 

The trailer is filled with rich visuals that show off the game characters’ space suits, scenic environs, and tools that will come in handy when completing missions. The trailer’s combat scenes also show several opponents that gamers must defeat in their quest using brains, brawn, and a diverse catalog of weapons to overcome size and power differences. The opponents shown include a gigantic modified bear and a four-armed modified beast. Exodus also heavily centers around Livestone, an element central to both gameplay and narrative.

According to the game’s official website, gamers will have to travel across the stars and be entangled in the political complexities involving competing colonies. Gamers will also have to maneuver under time dilation during their journey. The decisions in the game will result in consequences that will translate to the gamer’s characters and their homeworld during the player’s absence. The website also announced Matthew McConaughey’s involvement, with his exact role yet to be revealed. Gamers can sign up as founding members to earn the EXODUS Aegis space suit and refer friends to earn more in-game rewards. 

Exodus draws Mass Effect comparisons as gamer anticipation rises

Exodus was highly anticipated before its release, with gamers comparing it to the Mass Effect games. The sci-fi game’s development was spearheaded by BioWare alumni James Ohlen and Chad Robertson, whose development borrowed from Mass Effect’s combat and game mechanics and the integrated relationship-centered gameplay. The game’s narrative, its exploration-based plot, and interstellar conflicts are reminiscent of Commander Shepard’s adventures in Bioware’s flagship franchise.

Gamers online stated that they were highly anticipating Exodus’ release after seeing the trailer. Most gamers stated that they would play it due to its resemblance to Mass Effect and the fact that Bioware veterans helmed the project. Some gamers also referred to the eleventh Secret Level episode and stated that the game would be unique if the developers properly implemented the time dilation elements.
