- Galaxy Digital expanded its AI infrastructure with a second Texas data center project expected to boost local investment and revenue.
- The company plans a 74-megawatt first phase while targeting multi-hundred-megawatt expansion by 2030 through private funding and dedicated power infrastructure.
- Industry rivals including Core Scientific and Nvidia expanded AI computing capacity while data center investments face growing public scrutiny.
Galaxy Digital is expanding its artificial intelligence infrastructure business with a new data center campus in McGregor, Texas, strengthening its long-term investment in high-performance computing. The company acquired about 500 acres for the project, which will become its second major AI-focused campus in the state.
According to Galaxy, the development will begin with an initial 74-megawatt phase scheduled to receive power in 2028 before expanding into a multi-hundred-megawatt campus by 2030 through future phases.
Additionally, the company confirmed the campus will be privately funded and include its own substation. That approach aims to prevent local ratepayers from covering electricity infrastructure costs tied to the development.
Galaxy also estimates the project will contribute at least $130 million to McGregor’s tax base while creating long-term economic opportunities for the surrounding community.

Galaxy Accelerates Shift From Bitcoin Mining to AI Computing
The McGregor project reflects Galaxy’s broader strategy of expanding beyond bitcoin mining into AI and high-performance computing services. The company has steadily increased those investments since acquiring its Helios campus in West Texas during 2022.
Moreover, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas recently approved Galaxy’s plan to expand the Helios facility to 1.63 gigawatts. CoreWeave has already leased that capacity under a 15-year agreement, underscoring growing demand for AI computing infrastructure.
Galaxy CEO Mike Novogratz stated that the company has demonstrated how privately funded data centers can benefit rural communities. He added that the McGregor campus builds on that strategy by supporting local jobs, infrastructure improvements, and municipal revenue.
Reports also indicated Galaxy plans to raise about $3.5 billion through its first high-yield bond offering. The proceeds would finance the second expansion phase at the Helios campus and support its long-term agreement with CoreWeave.
AI Infrastructure Investment Gains Momentum Across Industry
Galaxy’s latest investment comes as several digital asset companies increase their exposure to AI infrastructure. Many U.S. bitcoin miners have converted portions of their existing facilities into high-performance computing sites while developing additional projects.
Meanwhile, Core Scientific announced that AMD will secure more than 500 megawatts of computing capacity beginning in 2027. The agreement also provides room to expand that capacity to 2.5 gigawatts.
Separately, reports indicated Nvidia signed leases valued at up to $50 billion for Hut 8’s one-gigawatt Beacon Point campus in Texas, highlighting sustained demand for large-scale AI infrastructure.
Large data center projects have also attracted greater public scrutiny. Critics have raised concerns about electricity consumption, water usage, and noise levels. However, supporters argue these facilities create construction jobs, generate tax revenue, and attract long-term investment to local communities.
Conclusion
Galaxy Digital’s McGregor campus adds another major project to its expanding AI infrastructure portfolio while reinforcing its strategy beyond bitcoin mining. The investment also reflects increasing competition among technology and digital asset companies seeking additional computing capacity to meet rising artificial intelligence demand.
