Google Plans To Partner With MediaTek For Its Next-Gen AI Chips

The US tech giant Google is all set to collaborate with MediaTek, which is Taiwan’s fabless semiconductor company. The firm has collaborated with MediaTek to develop its next-gen AI chips, Tensor Processing Units (TPUs).

The major reason behind this move by the firm could be the cost of chips. MediaTek offers cheaper and low-priced chips, compared to Broadcom, with whom the firm has worked in past years to develop its AI chips.

As per the reports, apart from this, MediaTex also has a strong partnership with TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company). Additionally, Google has also designed its own AI server chips. The chips are being used for its internal research and development. Notably, its AI chips are also available to its cloud users.

However, Google plans to develop these advanced AI chips with MediaTek by next year, in 2026. These steps have helped Google remain a leader in this competitive AI market. The firm does not rely on Nvidia chips. Its competitors, OpenAI and Meta, rely heavily on Nvidia chips.

Further, Google is also advancing its artificial intelligence (AI), keeping it updated by including advanced features in its Gemini. Recently, Google has updated its Gemini AI app with advanced features.

The Gemini users will be able to explore upgraded features like a research assistant, deeper personalization, and expanded connectivity with Google apps, all of which are available at no cost.

Along with this, custom AI experts called “Gems,” are now free for Gemini users aged 18+. Users can select pre-made Gems, such as translators or meal planners, or create custom ones with specific instructions for personalized results, broadening Gemini’s adaptability and appeal.

Further, the firm has also stated that it will expand its Gemini capabilities to its other Google apps and services, like Google Photos, Tasks, Calendar, and Notes, in the coming months.

The firm has also introduced Gemma 3 to its AI models. Gemma 3 is the most capable model one can run on a single GPU and TPU. Additionally, this year the firm also has plans to collaborate with Apple for Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging to Indian mobile phone users.
