Nethermind joins Chainlink as a node operator and migrates its cross-chain verifier operations

@Nethermind, the blockchain research and software engineering firm behind one of Ethereum's two most widely used execution clients, is joining @chainlink as a node operator. In its new role, Nethermind will run infrastructure supporting Chainlink's CCIP cross-chain messaging protocol and its Data Feeds price oracles, and will contribute tooling and integration work to the network.

The move marks a significant shift in where Nethermind anchors its cross-chain verification work. The firm has been operating as a Decentralized Verifier Network (DVN) on LayerZero, the role it took on in December 2023. Nethermind's DVN on LayerZero is described in official documentation as "a resilient DVN hosted by Nethermind," notable for running across multiple Availability Zones with a load balancer to distribute traffic and enhance resilience. Neither Chainlink nor Nethermind named LayerZero directly in their announcement, and no financial terms or migration timeline were disclosed.

Chainlink's CCIP is a cross-chain messaging and token transfer protocol that connects more than 70 public and private blockchains through a single integration. Node operators on the network play a core role in securing both the messaging layer and the price oracle feeds that underpin much of decentralized finance. CCIP combines decentralized oracle networks, an independent Risk Management Network that can pause traffic, configurable rate limits per token and per lane, and direct integrations with bank-grade messaging systems like SWIFT.

Nethermind's participation adds a firm with deep Ethereum infrastructure credentials to the Chainlink operator set. Its execution client is one of the two most-used on the Ethereum network, giving it a track record in high-availability, production-grade node operations. Beyond running infrastructure, Nethermind will also contribute tooling and integration work, suggesting the partnership goes beyond a straightforward operational arrangement.

On the LayerZero side, DVNs are the entities responsible for verifying messages sent across chains by applications that use LayerZero. As of April 2026, more than 50 DVN operators run on the network, including LayerZero Labs, Google Cloud, Polyhedra Network, Nethermind, Animoca, Horizen Labs, and Delegate. The departure of Nethermind from that role, while not formally confirmed by either company, is implied by the migration of its verifier operations to Chainlink's infrastructure.

No further details on the scope or commercial terms of the Chainlink arrangement have been made public.
