A NFT version of a soccer game based on the Japanese manga and anime series “Captain Tsubasa” has been launched officially on the Oasys blockchain, a platform focused on Web3 gaming.

The Oasys team announced the game’s release on May 20, 2024, and offered fans a chance to immerse themselves in the world of Captain Tsubasa through this new gaming experience.

Developed by Mint Town and Blocksmith, the Web3 game was first unveiled in 2022 and officially launched on Jan. 12, 2023. It introduces a unique gameplay experience where players can collect NFTs of characters from the original animated series. These NFTs allow gamers to develop their characters, form teams, and engage in various modes within the game.

“We are excited to introduce Captain Tsubasa -RIVALS- to Oasys’ high-performance gaming blockchain. This will provide fans around the world with a fresh way to experience one of Japan’s most iconic soccer stories,” stated Hiroshi Kunimitsu, CEO of Mint Town, Co., Ltd, in the announcement.

Kunimitsu added that integrating into the Oasys blockchain offers fans “a new way” to engage with the animated story and showcases the potential of blockchain technology “in enhancing interactive entertainment and gaming.”

One of the highlights of the new game is its Rival mode, which allows players to relive the original storyline of “Captain Tsubasa.” Additionally, a player-versus-player (PvP) mode enables gamers to compete against each other online.

The game also features an exciting Arena mode where players can participate in 11 versus 11 soccer matches, adding a new level of excitement and strategy to the gameplay.

The “Captain Tsubasa” manga series debuted in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1981 and was later adapted into an anime series in 1983. Over the years, it has spawned multiple movies and television adaptations, with the latest airing in 2018. By 2023, the series had sold 90 million copies worldwide, solidifying its place as one of the best-selling manga series of all time.
