Seven dormant miner wallets, each holding exactly 50 $BTC, suddenly became active after roughly 16.5 years of silence, sending the Bitcoin community into a frenzy of speculation. @WhaleAlert reported that the wallets awoke on September 5, drawing immediate attention across the market.

A Coordinated Move From Bitcoin's Earliest Days

The wallets in question each held a 50 BTC block reward, the fixed subsidy paid to miners before Bitcoin's first halving. The coins came from separate mining-reward blocks from March 2010, each holding the 50 BTC subsidy that miners received before Bitcoin's first halving.Rather than a single wallet waking up, this was a coordinated set of separate addresses, all mined in the same month, moving in the same batch of transactions. The coins moved into two Native SegWit addresses rather than a known exchange deposit wallet, which analysts read as a custody or security move rather than a sale.

The event comes against a backdrop of broader dormant-wallet activity. During the first five days of September, a total of 626.74 BTC worth over $50 million from dormant Bitcoin wallets moved for the first time in years, with Bitcoin trading between $76,000 and $82,000.

The Patoshi Pattern and the Satoshi Question

The renewed activity has revived questions about the so-called Patoshi miner, a mysterious early participant whose mining behaviour has long been studied as a possible fingerprint of Satoshi Nakamoto. Blockchain analysis conducted by researcher Sergio Demian Lerner identified a distinctive pattern in the early blocks, dubbed the "Patoshi pattern," which revealed consistent nonce values and mining behaviour that differed from other early miners, suggesting a single entity or coordinated mining operation.

Blockchain analysis suggests Satoshi Nakamoto controls approximately 1.1 million BTC across roughly 22,000 addresses, mined primarily between January 2009 and December 2010. Galaxy Research has estimated that 33,995 unspent 50 BTC rewards remain from Bitcoin's pre-halving period. Of those, an estimated 21,922 outputs valued at around 1.096 million BTC are attributed to the Patoshi miner. That total represents approximately 64.5% of all unspent 50 BTC coinbase transactions. The mining operation is said to have gradually slowed before shutting down entirely in May 2010.

Despite the renewed activity, there is no evidence confirming Satoshi personally moved these coins. Nearly all coins attributed to the Patoshi pattern, about 99.9%, have never been moved, while most other coins from that era have. This clear difference suggests that the Patoshi blocks belong to Bitcoin's creator, who has remained silent since. Until a definitive identification is made, the movements remain an open mystery.
