Bitcoin and Ethereum took the headlines on August 19, but the third large smart contract platform quietly kept pace: Solana (SOL) rose 6.6 percent to $82.23 and is up 8.8 percent on the week, on a market capitalisation of $47.9 billion and daily volume of $3.4 billion (CoinMarketCap, August 19, 2026, 9:45 p.m.).

That leaves SOL at its highest level in weeks, and the advance has more underneath it than a simple follow-the-leader effect. What sits behind it, which zones traders are watching now, and how to buy through regulated venues if that is what you want.

What Is Driving the Solana Price Right Now

The macro tailwind. The rally of August 19 came out of Washington: doubled bond buybacks by the US Treasury, new SEC token rules, a crypto summit at the White House. The mechanics behind it, including the billions of dollars in liquidated shorts, are set out in the market overview for August 19. Solana, as the second-largest smart contract platform, is among the first to benefit when capital climbs the risk ladder.

The meme economy runs on Solana. A large share of meme coin trading takes place on Solana, from Pump.fun through to the community tokens. Their comeback on August 19 (Pump.fun up 11 percent, BOME up 13.5 percent) translates directly into more transactions, more fees and more activity on the chain. Historically, when usage rises, demand for SOL itself rises with it.

Ethereum strength rubs off. Ethereum jumped 9.7 percent to $2,098 on the same day. When the number two in the market runs, investors traditionally rotate into its direct platform competitors as well, Solana first among them.

Which Solana Price Levels Matter Now

No tea leaves, but mechanics: after a breakout day, two zones decide whether the move continues.

Above: The area around $85 to $90, where SOL was turned away several times in early summer. That is where the sell orders sit from buyers who got in at those levels and want to get out at break-even. A daily close above it would be the signal that the market has digested that overhang.

Below: The breakout zone around $77 to $80, from which the current jump started. Pullbacks into it are normal after squeeze days and are no warning sign in themselves; only a slide well below it would invalidate the breakout.

One point of perspective: these are observation zones read off the price history, not a forecast. Whether they hold is decided by the market, not by this article.

How to Buy SOL: The Regulated Routes

Solana is among the coins that are consistently tradable at the large MiCA-licensed providers, which keeps the route short for buyers in the EU:

If you would rather not have to pick the one right entry day, spread the purchase out: a SOL or Bitcoin savings plan smooths the entry over several weeks, and the providers for it are listed in the savings plan comparison.

Solana Price: Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Solana rising today? SOL is benefiting from the market jump that followed the doubled US bond buybacks, the new SEC token rules and the crypto summit at the White House, and on top of that from the comeback of the meme coins, whose trading runs largely on Solana.

Where does the Solana price stand right now? At $82.23 on August 19, 2026 at 9:45 p.m., a gain of 6.6 percent within 24 hours (CoinMarketCap).

Is Solana tradable on regulated exchanges? Yes. SOL is tradable at the MiCA-licensed providers Coinbase and Bitpanda among others, including a savings plan option at several of them.

What is the biggest risk in buying SOL after a day like this? Part of the advance on August 19 was mechanical (shorts liquidated across the market). Moves of that kind can run back sharply into the breakout zone; anyone getting in should allow for pullbacks of several percent, or stretch the entry through a savings plan.
