The US Senate Banking Committee is set to take a crucial step regarding the CLARITY Act, which includes regulations for the cryptocurrency market. The committee’s markup hearing on the bill will be held on Thursday, May 14th at 5:30 PM Turkish time (10:30 AM EST).
Following the development, Kristin Smith, president of the Solana Institute, stated that the process was a significant milestone for US digital asset policy. Smith said, “The Senate Banking Committee has scheduled a markup hearing for May 14. This is a major step for digital asset policy in the US. I look forward to reviewing the full text of the bill.”

Smith also stated that simply passing the committee stage would not be enough for the bill, and that the process would need to advance through other stages of Congress. He said, “The task now is to get this through Congress and onto the President’s desk.”
The Clarity Act is considered one of the most important legislative bills aimed at creating a comprehensive framework for regulating digital assets in the United States. The bill seeks to provide clarity on which institutions will oversee cryptocurrency markets and how the legal status of the sector will be shaped.
