Who is the suspect?

The suspect has been identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from Torrance, California. Trump said FBI agents were searching the suspect’s home in California.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser said the suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was being “evaluated.”

“We have no reason to believe at this time that anyone else was involved,” she said.

Jeff Carroll, the interim chief of police of the Metropolitan police department, said the suspect was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives.

Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, said the defendant has been charged with felony firearms and assault charges.

Trump's second event in day

Trump hosted a luncheon for the top holders of the Official Trump (TRUMP) meme coin at the second annual contest at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, earlier the same day.

Trump launched the eponymous meme coin three days prior to his second presidential inauguration on Jan. 17, 2025.

The top 297 holders of the meme coin got invited to the gala and the top 29 holders also attended a "special VIP reception and champagne toast" with the president.

“As a president, I have to be able to make sure that all of our industries do well,” Trump said. “Crypto is a big industry, it’s actually become somewhat mainstream.”

The TRUMP token, which hit an all-time high of $73.43 on Jan. 19, 2025, was trading more than 96% lower at $2.62 at the time of writing.
